GuCun Migrant Community Center
Shanghai, CN
As Design Director of INCLUDED, Matt oversaw the design and construction of a shipping-container community center for Shanghai’s Gucun migrant worker community. The project was conceived as a relocatable building that could be disassembled and moved with the community, reflecting the precarious conditions faced by migrant workers in China, who often live in informal settlements subject to relocation with little notice.

Built on a former industrial site, the center includes two classrooms and an outdoor play area. Multifunctional cabinetry and furniture were designed to be easily stored and reconfigured, allowing the interior to support a flexible range of educational and community uses.
